Who We Are

The Sexual Assault Center of East Tennessee (SACET) was founded in 1973 as the Knoxville Rape Crisis Center and remains one of two comprehensive, community sexual assault agencies in the state of Tennessee. The mission of SACET is to provide excellent and compassionate services for survivors of sexual assault and to empower communities through education and social change. Effective January 1, 2014, SACET merged with the Helen Ross McNabb Center, a premier not-for-profit provider of behavioral health services in East Tennessee.

What We Do

SACET has four program areas, which include sexual assault nurse examinations (SANE), advocacy, therapy, and education.  SANE services include forensic exams, STD and ECP medications, STD tests, and expert witness testimony in court. The advocacy department provides victims of sexual assault with the support, information, and resources needed throughout the recovery process. Therapy services are available to victims in crisis, victims of a recent assault, and victims of an assault or sexual abuse that happened months or years ago. Services are offered to secondary survivors, as they too experience the effects of sexual violence. Our education specialists deliver personal safety curriculum in East Tennessee public and private schools, grades K-12.
