Who We Are
Positive Peer Pressure (P3) clubs have been initiated in the high schools and middle schools in Roane County. P3 clubs follow the curriculum of the nationally recognized Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) program. The mission of SADD is to provide students with the best prevention tools possible to deal with issues surrounding underage drinking, drug use, impaired driving and other destructive behaviors. Funding for many P3 activities is provided by the East Tennessee Foundation.
Campus Community Coalition - A Campus Community Coalition has been formed with Roane State Community College to build on campus efforts to reduce and prevent alcohol and drug use and/or abuse. This project is supported by the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Governor’s Highway Safety Office. The goals of this program are to draw statewide attention to the need for resources dedicated to assisting campuses to improve the effectiveness of alcohol and other drug prevention planning and to reduce high risk drinking on college campuses and improve life outcomes for students.
Celebrate Recovery- Celebrate Recovery is a faith-based program designed to help people struggling with hurts, hang-ups, and habits by helping them navigate the recovery process. Celebrate Recovery is based on eight Recovery Principles that are aligned with the 12-step recovery process.
STOP Act- RCADC is federally funded under SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Prevention Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP Act) grant. The STOP Act program provides funding for community-based coalitions throughout the country to prevent and reduce alcohol use among youth ages 12-20. The program strengthens collaboration among communities, as well as federal, state, local and tribal governments in efforts to instill an active commitment to prevent underage drinking.
Established Coalitions Block Grant- RCADC has a contract with the State of Tennessee Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services to increase prevention efforts in Roane County by focusing on the coordination and implementation of environmental strategies. Environmental strategies change the community environment by targeting community conditions, standards, institutions, structures, systems and policies that tend to support social and health consequences of substance abuse in the community. Specifically, environmental strategies seek to limit access to substances and to change the culture and contexts within which decisions about substance use are made.
What We Do
The Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition (RCADC) is a private, non-profit, grassroots corporation. The mission of RCADC is to reduce youth substance use; to educate and raise awareness of alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues; to promote community involvement; and to strengthen community partnerships and prevention strategies in Roane County
The long-term goals of RCADC are to 1) reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance abuse and by promoting the factors that are known to minimize the risk of substance abuse and 2) establish and strengthen collaboration among communities; private nonprofit agencies; and Federal, State and local governments to support the efforts of RCADC to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
