Each year, on a HUD selected date in January, an annual Point-In-Time (PIT) county is conducted in each county. The Roane County United Way will serve as the PIT Count Coordinator for this event. Volunteers will be needed to plan the outreach event, pack backpacks, and conduct surveys with people/persons experiencing Category 1 homelessness. This includes people living outside in tents or vehicles, those staying in hotels paid for by a church or non-profit agency, victims staying in domestic violence shelters, those staying in abandoned buildings, sheds, trailers or RVs that do NOT have power and water, those staying in emergency shelters or cold weather shelters. If you would like to participate in the planning, packing or outreach, we'd be happy to have the extra hands! The outreach event is typically the third or fourth week of January with a date selected by HUD. We do not have a specific date for the outreach yet.
