Homemaker Services include light housekeeping such as laundry, dishes, sweeping, mopping, dusting etc.  Personal Care services include bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, etc.  Through our partnership with Second Harvest, we are able to provide an extra 4 or 5 days of supplemental food to some of our neediest clients.  Through a partnership with A & W Business Supplies, we are able to provide cleaning supplies for those clients who cannot afford to purchase them.  We also provide transportation for shopping, doctor visits, etc.  Through our support from United Way, SCHAS is able to offer these services to those who fall into the middle income category.  These folks are not able to afford full fee, but are also not able to qualify for government program help.  United Way dollars makes it possible for SCHAS to offer a sliding scale fee based on net income to those folks who could otherwise go without help.  SCHAS has also been able to build an assisted living facility in Knox County called Renaissance Terrace.  The money for this project took many years of fundraising.  This allowed SCHAS to offer the same affordability to these assisted living residents.

Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service, Inc. (SCHAS) is primarily a homemaker agency.  The agency began in 1970 with a small grant from the federal government and has since grown to be in 20 Counties in East Tennessee.  This growth has been made exponential by the increased retirement of baby boomers and their increased needs for caregiving.  Today, in addition to homemaker services, SCHAS offers personal care, haircare services (in some counties), elder food through a partnership with Second Harvest, and transportation assistance.  SCHAS is accredited through the National Homecare Council and is the only agency of it's kind to receive this accreditation in the State of Tennessee.
